Description

The IMS Precision Shower Screen DL200IM for DeLonghi espresso machines (see compatibility list) is a performance upgrade developed in collaboration with Verybarista and manufactured by IMS in Italy.

This custom version introduces a refined perforation layout designed to improve water distribution across the coffee puck. It distributes water more evenly across the coffee puck, reduces localized flow concentration and helps maintain stable extraction. This effect is especially noticeable when using precision baskets, single-dose baskets, or fine grind settings.

The result - more stable extractions, improved shot repeatability, and cleaner espresso, without requiring any major changes to your workflow or your machine.

Instructions & Care

Installation

Remove existing shower screen and screw
Clean the group head contact surface
Install DL200IM with a screw
Tighten to secure fit without overtightening

Maintenance

Regular backflushing recommended
Remove and clean periodically to maintain optimal flow
Compatible with standard espresso machine detergents
Do NOT wash in a dishwasher
Do NOT soak in harsh chemicals

Water Flow

Uneven water streams without coffee in the portafilter are normal and do not necessarily indicate uneven extraction. Water flow depends on surface moisture, water pressure, and other conditions. Always evaluate extraction performance when brewing espresso.

What does the IMS shower screen improve?

The IMS integrated membrane design helps distribute water more evenly across the coffee puck, improving extraction consistency and reducing uneven saturation.

Will the screen lower the brewing temperature?

A cold metal puck screen may absorb a small amount of heat during brewing. For better temperature stability, warm it with hot water before placing it on the coffee puck.

Why doesn't the water always fall in even, rain-like droplets?

Water naturally forms different streams depending on surface moisture and flow conditions. For a rain-like effect, wipe the screen completely dry before running water. Uneven streams without coffee in the portafilter are normal and do not necessarily indicate an extraction problem.

Will this screen eliminate channeling or improve every espresso shot?

The optimized perforation pattern promotes more even water distribution, particularly around the central mounting area. Extraction also depends on grind size, dose, puck preparation, and coffee freshness. The shower screen is one part of a well-balanced espresso setup.

Why replace gasket and screen at the same time?

Because both are removed during the same process - and both affect extraction.If you replace only one:

Old gasket can still leak
Old screen can still distribute unevenly

Result: Partial improvement only.

Is this difficult to install?

No. Installation is straightforward and typically takes only a few minutes with basic tools.
