Tune-Up Kit for Gaggia: IMS Nanotech Shower Screen, Gasket, Grease

$36.00
Tax included Shipping calculated at checkout.

Essential maintenance reset for Gaggia Classic. Restores sealing, improves water distribution, and stabilizes extraction with an IMS Nanotech shower screen and durable gasket.

Description

As the gasket hardens and the shower screen clogs, pressure becomes unstable and water flow uneven - directly affecting extraction. This kit replaces both critical components, restoring proper sealing, controlled flow, and consistent results.

What changes after installation?

  • More even water dispersion across the puck
  • Stable pressure during extraction
  • Cleaner workflow with less buildup on the screen
  • Consistent results shot after shot

IMS shower screen

This screen allows water to run evenly before dispersion, improving distribution compared to standard screens. The nano-coating reduces adhesion of coffee oils and makes maintenance easy.

The integrated membrane shower screen is made of a single filtering part in stainless steel obtained through a process of photo-etching: special micro perforations are made inside the thickness of the shower to obtain a filtering power of 200 μm. Much better distribution than the OEM plate. Made in Italy.

Cafelat FDA-Approved Silicone Gasket (8.5 mm)

Say goodbye to rubber gaskets! This food-grade silicone gasket is odorless, tasteless, and softer than the original, allowing for a superior seal. Easy to install and developed by experts in espresso machine gaskets for the best fit. Replacing the gasket ensures a proper seal - critical for pressure consistency - and prevents from side leakage.

Silicone Grease Molykote 111

Safe, tasteless, odorless, premium quality. Safe for food and your espresso machine. Prevents gaskets from sticking to metal, plastic, resists weathering and water washout. Silicone gaskets require silicone grease, other type of lubricant may damage the silicone. 111 - industry standard lubricant with decades of proven performance. Made in USA.

Instructions & Care

Installation Instructions

  1. Turn Off & Unplug
Ensure your machine is switched off, unplugged, and completely cooled before starting.
  2. Remove old gasket, shower holder and a shower screen.
  3. Clean the Group Head - wipe away loose coffee grounds, then use a brush or backflushing method to clean thoroughly. This ensures your new parts work at their best.
  4. Lubricate sides of a new silicone gasket with just a small amount of compound.
  5. Install the gasket "Cafelat" sign placing up to the group head. Flat side down to portafilter.
  6. Place the shower holder (dispersion plate) into position.
  7. Align the shower screen and secure it using a screw. Tighten gently but firmly - do not overtighten.
  8. Test the Installation
Run a short shot of water without coffee to check for proper water flow and sealing.

Care & Maintenance Tips

  • Backflush Weekly - use a blind filter and espresso machine cleaning powder to backflush your machine regularly, preventing coffee oil buildup.
  • Rinse After Each Use - after brewing, run water through the group head for a few seconds to keep the shower screen clean.
  • Wipe & Inspect - periodically remove the shower screen and rinse under warm water. Wipe down the shower holder to prevent residue buildup.
  • Replace Gasket as Needed - while silicone gaskets last longer than rubber, replace them when they become loose, brittle, or discolored - usually every 1 year, depending on usage.
  • Avoid Harsh Scrubbing - the IMS shower screen’s Nanotech coating is designed for easy cleaning - avoid abrasive pads that could damage the surface.
  • Never put these parts in a dishwasher.
  • Never soak in harsh chemicals.

PRECISION FLOW CONTROL

Even water distribution across the entire puck.

RESTORED SEAL & PRESSURE

Consistent lock-in and stable extraction conditions.

Help & Advice

Why is my portafilter leaking during a shot?

This is most commonly caused by a worn or hardened gasket that no longer seals properly. Over time, heat cycles make the gasket lose elasticity, allowing water to escape around the rim. Solution: Replace the gasket and clean the group — this kit addresses both.

Why is water spraying unevenly or channeling?

Uneven flow from the group head is typically caused by a clogged or worn shower screen or buildup behind it. Solution: Replace or upgrade the screen - the IMS design improves distribution.

My espresso suddenly tastes worse. Can this fix it?

Yes - if the issue is machine-related, not coffee-related. Dirty or uneven brew components can cause:

  • Over-extraction (bitter taste)
  • Uneven flow across the puck
  • Residue contamination

Solution: Clean and replace critical parts - this kit restores a clean extraction environment.

Why am I getting random leaks even after cleaning?

If cleaning temporarily fixes the issue but leaks return, the gasket is likely physically degraded (not just dirty). This is one of the most common failure points in espresso machines. Solution: Replace the gasket - cleaning alone is no longer enough.

Why replace gasket and screen at the same time?

Because both are removed during the same process - and both affect extraction. If you replace only one:

  • Old gasket can still leak
  • Old screen can still distribute unevenly

Result: Partial improvement only.
